Recently, Denmark voted a ban on fox-fur production whilst the Netherlands has proposed a ban on mink-fur production.
What is new today is that the only basis for these bans is the ethics. But is there one single definition of ethics?

For years, many scientific and veterinarian reports have shown and confirmed that fur-farming uses responsible practices which are totally in line with the very strict European legislation. This is why, together with our 15 national associations and our 6,000 farmers, EFBA strongly opposes these ban proposals based on an unacceptable and totally arbitrary foundation. Animals do not know the purpose why they are bred for: meat, leather, fur… The importance is that they are properly kept. This is incontestable the case for fur farming in Europe.

Our farmers have worked hard to meet these EU high, standards especially in the area of animal welfare. The fur farming activity generates up to 120,000 jobs across Europe, gives considerable revenue to areas where jobs are hard to come by and supports thousands of families living in rural zones. In the context of the global financial crisis and employment insecurity, are these ban proposals the right priority?

Help us keep the pressure on European governments to stop these fur-farming ban proposals. Fur farming is not part of the problem but is part of the solution as it generates revenues and jobs.
